1.  (WHITTINGTON PRESS) NICHOLSON, William. AN ALPHABET. Andoversford:
Whittington  Press  (1978).  Folio (12" x 17") consisting of  a  large
12-page  pamphlet by Edward Craig-- "William Nicholson's AN  ALPHABET.
An  Introduction to the Reprint from the Original Woodblocks"--and  38
loose  illustrations laid into the box with tissue guards. The set  of
prints  and  the pamphlet are both #68 of only 150 with  the  pamphlet
SIGNED  by  Craig. The plates are printed on handmade paper  from  the
original  woodblocks  except for four, two of which had  the  original
blocks  missing,  one of which is a litho facsimile of the  unfinished
block,  and  one  which already existed as a  copper  electrotype.  In
addition  on the cover of the clamshell box is a hand-colored print of
The  Ballad-Seller,  one  of the plates enclosed. The  plates  include
both  rejected  and alternate versions. Laid in is a prospectus  and a
flyer  describing  the  reprinting  of the book.  Fine  in  Near  Fine
clamshell box with stain at the rear.                         $1000.00
