CONTEMPORANEOUS DATE THE IMPORTANT BATTLES OF THE CIVIL WAR. Unadilla 
NY: Privately Printed for Lieut. Horace E. Bailey, 1903. Illustrated 
by half-tones and maps. First edition. Inscribed by one of the 
regiment, Thomas Howland, Co. A. Fine. Includes complete roster. 
Thomas Howland, the original owner of this book was a member of Co. 
A. He has corrected, by hand, his entry in the roster and also wrote 
this inscription on the half-title page, "Thomas Howland's Book. Cost 
$2.80. Received it the last of Sept. 1903. It is not an accurate 
history of the 144th NY. I have read it through and find some things 
all right and others all wrong. It belittles many a battle  and 
skirmish. The Historian was not in it all. Thos. Howland".  Aside 
from a little cracking to the paper at the inner hinges, this book
