Mill, John [Joannis Millii]; Alexander, Caleb, ed. HE KAINE DIATHEKE
NOVUM TESTAMENTUM. JUXTA EXEMPLAR JOANNIS MILLII ACCURATISSIME
IMPRESSUM. [E]. Wigorniae [Worcester] Massachusettensi: Excudebat
Isaias Thomas, Jun., singulatim et numerose eo vendita officinae
suae, [Isaiah Thomas], 1800. 478 pp., Adv. [2]. 12mo. [17 cm]. Full
tree calf with red morocco spine label. Editio prima Americana.
Evans 36952; Darlow and Moule, 4775; Bibliography of Worcester, 397;
Sabin 56204.

The first New Testament printed in Greek in the United States.
Chronology by Caleb Alexander in English, text in Greek in two
columns. Error in paging: p. 385 mis-numbered 185. Although the title
page is dated April, 1800, a dated advertisement on p. [480]
indicates that printing was not completed until about Dec. 25, 1802.
The editor departed from Mill's text in several instances.

Signed on the free end paper by George C. [Curtis] Waldo, Ct.
journalist. Very rare according to Sabin.

Boards and spine scuffed and worn with minor loss at head of spine
and top front corner, rear hinge split at the top edge, endpapers
toned, especially at the edges, some scattered foxing, otherwise
boards and binding quite firm, leaves unmarked, overall a good or
better solid copy of this important imprint. [24942] $1000
