Wilde, Oscar, Illustrated by Audrey Beardsley & Andre Derain, Salome (2
volumes); The Limited Editions Club, N.Y., 1938: Unusual double volume
Limited Editions Club issue of Salome'; two volumes:
One volume in the Original French, designed by Rene' ben Sussan an printed
by Dehon et Cie, in a new Peignot type set by hand, on rag Rives paper.
Illustrations are water-colors (9 full page) by Andre' Derain reproduced by
hand on black Ingres paper at Maison Saude'. Black wraps, pink and whit
lettering, original glassine wrapper, mild wrinkling, with various closed
tears and chips to spine and corners. Small foxed spot to title, facing page
and dedication page. #905 of 1500, signed by Derain to Colophon. Rough cut
pages. All else, clean, tightly bound. The English volume was printed in
London, translated into English under Wilde's supervision by his friend Lord
Alfred Douglas. Designed by Ernest Ingham and printed at Fanfare Press, in
Bembo type on rag Pannekoek paper. Illustrations are from the original
drawings made by Aubrey Beardsley for the 'First Edition," including four
drawings which were excluded from that edition. #905 of 1500. Brick colored
cloth boards and spine, elaborated gilt decoration to front, with gilt
lettering, gilt lettering to spine dulled. Rough cut pages, some unopened.
Both in heavy brown slipcase, short split to lower edge, rubbed to all
edges, spine dulled gilt title, mild sunning with few drop damp stains, case
solid. A very nice collection of one of Wilde's most popular works, by two
great illustrators. Includes original card notification of shipping, with
details of books, dated July IX (9) 1938. First Edition Thus. $450.00

volumes of modern, comprehensive literature on the Jewish people. Successive 
historic eras, as well as a study on special cultural and religious aspects 
of the historic record, are treat by scholars of world-wide renown in the 
respective fields. Chapters on the Biblical period, post-Biblical; Jewish 
history of the Middle Ages; the Bible; Jewish Law; Hebrew Poetry; Hebrew 
Literature.  Jewish Contributions to philosophy and ethics, to law, science, 
literature, music and art. The contemporary situation- political, 
sociological and economic is also surveyed. Throughout the book the work of 
the Jews is related to that of their contemporaries. 15 illustrations and 4

spine end, lower 1/4 inch chip, few creases to spine with one other small 
chip. Rear upper edge short closed tear, lower small chip. Text very clean 
and bright, no writing, solidly bound. In protective brodart mylar. First

Carthage and the Carthaginians, by Smith, Bosworth R., MA., Longmans, Green 
and Company, London, 1879, Second Edition:
A scholarly study of Cathage and two of her greatest citizens; Hamilcar 
Barca and Hannibal. The two opening chapters provide a general sketch of the 
Carthaginian influence and civilization; continuing with the difference 
between Cathage and Rome and covering the First and Second Punic Wars. From 
the 8th century till the 3rd century BCE, Carthage was the dominating power 
of the western half of the Mediterranean. Carthage had been founded in the 
9th century by Phoenician traders of Tyre. Carthage had two first class 
harbors, and therefore an advantage with the most efficient means of 
communications of those days, the sea. We have few sources to everyday life 
of the Carthaginians. Their religion had Baal and Tanit as central gods, but 
there were also elements from Greek religion, with the goddesses of Demeter 
and Persephone. The religion of the Carthaginians involved rituals with
