YOUNGHUSBAND, Captain Frank E. /THE HEART OF A CONTINENT: A Narrative of 
Travels in Manchuria, across the Gobi Desert, through the Himilayas, the 
Pamirs, and Chitral, 1884-1894./.Bound in original gilt-decorated 
olive-green cloth, with four folding maps, b&w illustrations. John 
Murray, London. 1896. 2nd edition. Royal 8vo, pp. xvii, 409. Boards 
slightly bowed (perhaps due to map pocket at rear), and a bit bumped & 
scuffed. Hinges tight, contents clean: very good condition. All maps 
present and in very good condition.

Younghusband (1863-1942) was a British soldier, explorer and mystic, who 
was born in India, educated at Sandhurst, and joined the Dragoon Guards 
in India in 1882. He developed considerable knowledge of central Asia, 
and went on to serve the British Raj in many ways, often travelling 
constantly. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the first three Mount 
Everest expeditions (see Neate 945).
