NILES, Blair. STRANGE BROTHER. New York: Horace Liveright, Inc.
(1931). First Edition. Blair Niles was born Mary Blair Rice. In 1902
she married the naturalist William Beebe and with him wrote two books
about her extensive travels with her husband. A day after divorcing
him in 1913, Blair married an architect named Robert L. Niles and
changed her name to Blair Niles. This particular novel mixes Black
and Gay cultures as it depicts the life of a white gay man who
frequents the nightclubs and speakeasies of Harlem. It is now
recognized as a classic of Gay Literature and is rarely found in the
true first edition, let alone in this condition in a dustwrapper,
which in this case has a few small chips and light edgewear but
presents very nicely. Close to Fine in a Very Good dustwrapper. $500.00
