Toast Book - Clare Victor Dwiggins - Clare Victor Dwiggins, Philadelphia,
1905: Clare Victor Dwiggins American illustrator (1874-1959) (B) Wilmington
(Ohio). He studied the people in his village schools, from which his
cartoons series "School Days" was developed. He also illustrated many
children's books. This unique and rare book is about various drink toasts
and salutations. Profusely illustrated on each page with humorous drawings.
Many verses are geared towards the departed; to love; the future and more.
Wonderful illustrations representative of the early 1900's, with women in
Gibson Girl fashion of face, nymphets, fairies, period dress, cartoonish
elves, etc. "Here's to the girl that's strictly in it. Who doesn't lose her
head for a minute. Plays well the game and knows the limit. And still gets
all the fun there's in it". Beautiful girl rising put of a Champagne glass,
drinking through a long straw. Book is shaped and illustrated as a skull,
paper backed cloth in black and white. Decoratively illustrated title page.
One page has a very small chip to upper edge. Tightly bound; however, few
gatherings have cracked hinge. First edition, not paginated, 16 mo. Clean
with clean text and illustrations. - $150.00
