being part of a bound volume). 1st appearance thus (Currier &
Tilton, p 14; Wilson II, pp. 456-458). Overall VG+ $1250.
A quite scarce piece from the Holmes canon and the periodical itself
for a long time believed to contain his first appearance in print
(now known to be third)- Holmes himself credits thie Collegian (#1)
as his first periodical appearance. The Wilson catalogue terms this
work, "Of great rarity in any form.. [noting] only a limited number
of No. IV were printed." The material was completely reset for the
subsequent joint issue of Parts IV & V which almost invariably
represent the Fourth Number in the bound volume of this rare literary
periodical.
