Tavistock Books offers:

[Holmes, Oliver Wendell  1809 - 1894].  The COLLEGIAN.  No. IV.  May 
1830.  Cambridge: Published by Hilliard & Brown,  1830.   Pp [145] - 
200.  Contains 3 contributions of Holmes: 'The Spectre Pig" 
"Reflections of a Proud Pedestrian" & "An Invocation".   8vo.  8-3/8" 
x 5-1/8".   Original printed grey wrappers (evidence of previously 
being part of a bound volume).   1st appearance thus (Currier & 
Tilton, p 14;  Wilson II, pp. 456-458).  Overall VG+  $1250. 

A quite scarce piece from the Holmes canon and the periodical itself 
for a long time believed to contain his first appearance in print 
(now known to be third)-  Holmes himself credits thie Collegian (#1) 
as his first periodical appearance.  The Wilson catalogue terms this 
work, "Of great rarity in any form.. [noting] only a limited number 
of No. IV were printed."   The material was completely reset for the 
subsequent joint issue of Parts IV & V which almost invariably 
represent the Fourth Number in the bound volume of this rare literary 
periodical.
