Pickering, 1851. 8vo, original cloth with worn, soiled label, spine
renewed with original spine retained. Cxxxiv, 288 pages. 4 pages of
advts at front, with the signature, "Edwd Dowden, March, 1871" on the
advt. page opposite the title page, with light offset at the top of
the title page. Also with the bookplate of the
art historian & museum curator, Winslow Ames. Boxed. (Often described as
2 volumes in 1; the second part contains "The Bride's Tragedy," with "vol. II"
printed at the foot of the half-title. The quite lengthy "Memoir" is by T. F.
Kelsall. First of this 1-volume edition, which dropped "The Devil's Jestbook."
Some pencilled marginalia, particularly in the "Memoir" section. SCARCE. )
