BUCHAN, William. DOMESTIC MEDICINE: OR, A TREATISE ON THE
PREVENTION AND CURE OF DISEASES, BY REGIMEN AND SIMPLE MEDICINES.
WITH AN APPENDIX.... Fairhaven, VT: James Lyon 1798. The First
Vermont Edition, published previously in Philadelphia and elsewhere.
Octavo bound in full original calf with black leather label; xxiv,
476, [19] pages. The most popular home medical book of the late 18th
and 19th centuries, stressing the importance of basic hygiene and
nutrition in helping one heal himself. Charming 1836 owner
inscription on front blank describing the presentation of the book
from an uncle to a nephew "for his good attendence to him in his
sickness." Few signatures a little sprung; moderate staining and
darkening, heavy to a few pages. Rubbed, leather label partly scraped
away. Good, solid copy. $300.00
