Small quarto (5-1/8" x 7") bound in 18th century vellum with gilt
morocco spine label, red speckled edges. With a total of 52 engraved
pages including an engraved dedication to Giovanni Carlo Fuchs signed
by Giovanni Troschel, an engraved frontispiece "ad instanza del
M.R.P.D. Guiulio Cesare Sartirana nell Monastero di S. Pietro
Giessate di Milano" signed "G.F.A.," an engraved title, and 49
engraved plates, most numbered and the first signed by F. Villamena.
Apparently lacking plate 15 but with plate 16 in duplicate. A rare
emblem book illustrating the life of St. Francis of Assisi, with
caption to each plate in Latin and Italian. Plate 13 shows St.
Francis meeting with the Sutlan of Turkey in 1219, and plate 46 his
receiving of the Stigmata on Mount La Verna in 1224. Not in Landwehr
ROMANTIC EMBLEM BOOKS. Only the St. Bonaventure University copy
located by OCLC. One plate with clean tear just into image and
repaired on verso; spotting to the last plate. Near Fine $1750.00
