lettering. 4to. Includes maps of coastal regions of MA, CA, GA, VA, 
NH, ME, FL, NY, NC, LA, TX, OR, WA etc. Backstrip repaired, cloth 
covering boards scraped in two places at board edges. Foxing to 
pastedowns. Minor scattered foxing to some of the contents, otherwise

of the contents, almost none to maps. A very good copy. Complete. 
Maps and engravings including coastal regions of; Cape Cod, ME, CT, 
NC, DE, MD, SC, FL, Galveston Bay,TX, CA, etc.  $1200.00

3.  DAVIS, JEFFERSON.  RISE AND FALL OF THE CONFEDERATE GOVERNMENT, 
THE. New York: D. Appleton and Company, 1881. Illustrated by nineteen 
plates and eighteen maps (fourteen fold-out, placed at rear of Vol. 
2), all in fine untouched condition. First edition. 2 volumes. 
Original brown cloth with gilt design at front boards and gilt 
lettering at spine; floral end-papers. 9.25" x 5.75". [707/808 pgs] 
Near fine. Former private library, number stamped in each volume, 
shadow of label at spines.  Previous owner's blind stamp at each 
title-page and first page of text, Vol 1 also stamped at Introduction 
page.  Attractive bookplate at each paste-down with matching black 
leather labels at boards.  Minor shelf wear to extremities, Volume 2 
has a few dents to edge of front board.  Contents are clean and tight 
and free of foxing. Howes D-120.  $600.00

map of Half Moon Bay was omitted by publisher before going to press). 
First edition. Original  brown embossed cloth with gilt lettering. 
4to. Spine faded. starting at inner hinges. A fine copy. Complete and 
unopened. Maps include coastal ares of NE, Damariscotta, ME, Kennebec 
and Sheepscot Rivers, ME, Nantucket, Providence RI, DE, Chesapeake 
Bay, Cape Fear, MS River, Pacific states.  $950.00

5.  LAWSON, ANDREW ET AL.  (ATLAS) THE CALIFORNIA EARTHQUAKE OF APRIL 
18, 1906. Washington D C: Carnegie Institute, 1908. Illustrated by 
145 plates and 3 maps in books plus 25 maps & 15 seismographs in 
atlas . First edition. 4 volumes. 4to. Near fine. All volumes, 
including the atlas volume are first printings. Two 4to volumes in 
three, plus elephant folio atlas.  Sturdy library binding, 
uncirculated.  $2100.00

6.  MITCHELL, S. AUGUSTUS.  MITCHELL'S SCHOOL ATLAS, COMPRISING THE 
MAPS ETC. DESIGNED TO ILLUSTRATE MITCHELL'S SCHOOL AND FAMILY 
GEOGRAPHY. Philadelphia: Thomas, Cowperthwait and Co, 1840. 
Illustrated by 4 geographical and statistical tables followed by 18 
maps on eighteen sheets, hand-colored, including a map of Texas, 
Upper California and Oregon and the Western States up to the Indian 
Territories, just west of Missouri. Second state of first edition. 
Original salmon boards and leather spine,some wear at top and bottom 
of spine. Original end papers, all maps fine., though lightly foxed. 
Small folio (10 x 12 1/2"). Near fine. Previous owner's bookplate. 
Complete.  $650.00

7.  MORSE, JEDIDIAH.  AMERICAN UNIVERSAL GEOGRAPHY, VOLUMES I AND II, 
THE. Boston: Isaiah Thomas and Ebenezer Andrews, 1793. Illustrated by 
11 maps, all in fine condition other than the usual minor offsetting 
and equaling minor foxing. First edition. Original sheepskin binding 
with original red leather labels. Volume I is weak at hinges. Both 
volumes have minor wear to spine extremities. 8vo. [Prelims. plus 
696; 552 pgs] Very good. The publisher states that this work may be 
considered in some respects a second edition of the American 
Geography (1789) except that it is so enlarged and improved that it 
was given a new title. Thus this present copy is a first edition. 
Complete. Missing first free end paper in both volumes. Title pages 
missing narrow strip across top with no loss to text.The following 
describes each map : The folding map of The World by Amos Doolittle 
opposite title page is fine is intact and with only minor offsetting 
from leather. Artificial Sphere by Doolittle is fine. North America 
by Doolittle has one small (1") neat split at hinge and some 
noticeable foxing especially at bottom half . Maine by Osgood 
Carleton  is fine. Pennsylvania by Osgood Carleton is fine. Virginia 
including Georgia, No. Carolina, So. Carolina, E. Florida, W. Florida 
(inc. Country of Frankland later Franklin) by Doolittle has a 3" 
closed tear at hinge. South America and the West Indies both by 
Doolittle are fine. Sabin 50926.  $3400.00

8.  RAYNAL, ABBE (GUILLAUME THOMAS).  PHILOSOPHICAL AND POLITICAL 
HISTORY OF THE SETTLEMENTS AND TRADE OF THE EUROPEANS IN THE EAST AND 
WEST INDIES. London: T. Cadell, 1777. Translated by J. Justamond. 
Illustrated by frontispiece portrait and 4 fold-out maps in fine 
condition, including the large map of North America. Third edition. 5 
volumes. Bound in recent 3/4 red calf retaining original tree calf 
boards with marbled end papers. Gilt rules divide spines into 5 
compartments with gilt lettering. 8vo. [Index, ad leafs plus 474, 
584, 474, 508, 568  pgs] Near fine. Complete. Bindings are strong and 
attractive. Pages and maps are clean and free of foxing. Very 
attractive set.  $785.00

9.  RAYNAL, ABBE (GUILLAUME THOMAS).  PHILOSOPHICAL AND POLITICAL 
HISTORY OF THE SETTLEMENTS AND TRADE OF THE EUROPEANS IN THE EAST AND 
WEST INDIES. London: A. Strahan & T. Cadell, 1788. Translated by J. 
Justamond. Illustrated by frontispiece portrait and 7 fold-out maps 
in fine condition. 8 volumes. Original polished calf with original 
red leather labels. Several hinges weak, otherwise bindings are very 
good. 8vo. Very good. Newly translated and with a new set of maps. 
Complete. Bindings are strong and attractive. Pages and maps are 
clean and free of foxing. The maps all are untrimmed with full 
margins. Very attractive set.

Maps are: Map of Europe by Thomas Kitchin. Fine but for a closed tear 
from hinge to first fold; The World by Kitchin. Fine with one tiny 
tear to a fold with no loss ; Map of European Settlements in the East 
Indies by Kitchin. Fine but for closed tear near hinge with no loss; 
Map of the European Settlements in Mexico or New Spain and the West 
Indies by Kitchin. Fine; Africa with the European Settlements by 
Kitchin. Fine; Map of the European Settlements in South America by 
Kitchin. Fine; Map of the United States in North America. Fine but 
for small closed tear near hinge. In Volume VIII the author discusses 
the history of the settlements in North America and even expounds on 
the witchcraft frenzy in Salem, New England. Very attractive set.
