REAGAN, Ronald. SIGNED TYPED SPEECH to the Assembly of the
Republic Chamber in Lisbon, Portugal. Lisbon: 9 May 1985. Copy of a
White House Press Release consisting of six separate legal-sized
(8-1/2" x 14") stapled sheets SIGNED by Reagan at the top of the
first page: "This is for you/Ronald Reagan." In very small part:
"...In a little more than a decade, your nation has moved
rapidly...to a decisive turn to democratic self-rule...the people of
Portugal have chosen freedom.... Your adventure is important to our
century...your geographic location is strategically vital, your armed
forces are modernizing.... Yes, democratic Portugal has
faced...problems...how right Winston Churchill was to remind us that
democracy truly is the worst form of government except all the
others.... The essential truth at the heart of the Portugese and
American democracy is our belief that governments exist for the sake
of the people...the dignity of man, the value of the individual...."
Much, much more. A rare and important form of Reagan's autograph.
