Haghe, Louis. SKETCHES IN BELGIUM AND GERMANY. SECOND SERIES. (London: Henry 
Graves & Co.). 1845. Lg. folio (21-1/2” x 14-1/2”). A portfolio of 26 
hand-colored and mounted (on heavy board) lithographic plates by “Day & Haghe Lithrs. 
to the Queen.” Finely bound in 1/2 brown morocco, gilt, over rose cloth. 
A.e.g. Extremities a bit scuffed. Lacking the leaf of ads at the end.     
$4,000.00 (trade discount allowed)
One of the few hand-colored copies, published at £10, 10 shillings in 1845 
(compared to the regular tinted litho. copies at £4, 4 shillings). See Abbey, 
TRAVEL IN AQUATINT AND LITHOGRAPHY, #37. A “First Series” of sketches had 
appeared 5 years earlier (1840) and a Third Series called “Portfolio of Sketches” 
appeared in 1850. Each is complete in itself.
