portrait. Near fine.
Vivid memoir of everyday life for a common soldier in the Civil War.
Van Alstyne was with the 128th New York Infantry and spent time in Maryland
and Louisiana. DORNBUSCH, VOL. I, #N532; NEVINS, CWB VOL. I, p. 172. Bound
in dark green cloth over boards with spine and upper board titled in gilt,
camp vignette in gilt at center of upper board, decorative endpapers. Prior
owner bookplate on front pastedown, minor rubs to binding extremities.
Endpapers showing some splitting along inner margins but hinges remain snug.
