collection  of  letters  and essays by Smith  (1771-1845),  "the  most
famous  wit  of  his  generation."  This copy  with  a  fine  one-page
AUTOGRAPH  LETTER SIGNED by Smith, an eloquent and clever refusal of a
request  from  a  lady  for his autograph, tipped to  the  front  free
endpaper.  Bookplate on front pastedown beneath dustwrapper flap. Fine
in Near Fine dustwrapper with minor edgewear.                  $500.00
