First Edition, First Printing   2 volumes, original cloth..  Matches all
points in BAL 19343 B. T cloth brown.  Handsome, fresh, clean, and
crisp covers, pages, and type.  Well cared for.  Title page vignette and
six engraving by Hammet Billings.  Blindstamped covers in
light brown cloth with vignette scene on front covers goldstamped.
Gilt titles on spine are still fresh.  One chip at the top of the spine has
been carefully repaired on one volume.  There is a small break in the
cloth at the very top on the other.  The corners are straight with
pinpoint touches of wear at tips of the corners and a scrape on one
fore edge of cover for about an inch up from the bottom.  Interior
gutters of original end papers are complete and without wear.
Signatures still firmly sewn.  Occasional light foxing on end  papers
and pages; mostly brightly clean and crisp pages except for damp
water mark on 12 pages near fore-edge of one volume..   There is an
early former owner engraved bookplate in one volume (well known
person) and the name of another former owner is written twice (may
be known person in 19th century politics).  Photos of the set on request.
