Greetings Booklovers,
We are pleased to offer:
~
(No. 9049 ) De Costa, B[enjamin]. F[ranklin]. (1831-1904). LAKE GEORGE: ITS
SCENES AND CHARACTERISTICS, WITH GLIMPSES OF THE OLDEN TIMES. TO WHICH IS
ADDED SOME ACCOUNT OF TICONDEROGA, LAKE LUZERNE, SCHROON LAKE AND THE
ADIRONDACKS. WITH AN APPENDIX, CONTAINING NOTES ON LAKE CHAMPLAIN.
New York: Anson D. F. Randolph & Company, [1871]. Third Edition, Original
cloth, Duodecimo, iv, [5]-186, [i]-xiv pages, black & white engraved plates,
cuts, maps. Good.
Charming 19th century travel guide illustrated to show not only the
natural beauty of the area but also some of the hotels. There are two
fold-out maps at rear and a double spread map in the text. Tissue-guarded
frontispiece titled "Ausable Chasm" by Kilburn. Last leaf has a page with
advertising for a hotel, a railway, and steamer lines. Bound in orange cloth
over boards with spine and both boards lettered and decorated in black.
Boards show edge wear and general soil, and lower board has water damage.
The larger folding map at rear has been mis-folded and has a 4 1/2" tear at
lower attachment point. The textblock shows mild age toning, with some
dampstaining to last several pages, but good overall. Hinges are not
cracked. $75.00
