This Senate issue copy of “Report upon the Colorado River of the West
” is
a truly spectacular example of a nineteenth century expedition report. The
first study of the Colorado River and one of the most desirable books
about the river, its canyons and its exploration, this oversize volume
includes two extraordinary 35"x16" fold-out maps of the Colorado River, as
prepared by "Baron" Egloffstein, who pioneered a unique engraving process
to achieve a superb rendering of topographical features. Also included are
7 chromolithograph “Indian Portraits”, 17 lithographs, 8 fold-out
panoramas and 68 black & white wood-cuts.
