Milizia (1725-1798), an architect, author and curator, was a neoclassicist. 
The first edition of this work is 1781. Our edition appeared in the year of his 
death. It is a discussion of art in Rome, applying the aesthetic theories of 
Johann G. Sulzer and Anton R. Mengs.
