      Friedrich Wilhelm Rudolf Gerhard August von Steuben was the Prussian 
officer who drilled General Washington's motley mob of farmers and 
shopkeepers into the Continental Army that ultimately won independence from 
Great Britain. HOWES #D456. Numerous tissue-guarded plates of photographs, 
maps, and other illustrations. An appendix contains information on various 
commemorations in Jefferson County, Ohio, including that of "Morgan's Raid" 
during the Civil War. This is copy #552 of an edition limited to 600, bound 
in red cloth over boards with gilt-stamped spine and upper board. Front 
endpaper has a few small holes at top of gutter, lower board shows some 
slight rippling along fore edge, a few shallow edge wrinkles to cloth at top 
of spine. Crisp and well preserved over all.    $125.00
