First edition. Thin octavo, original boards, spine worn, some
spotting. 95 pp.
Inscribed on the title page: "Mary Spenser from the Author." Printed
"for private circulation." (Brackett, 1818-1908, a man of many
parts, was long a fixture in Winchester, Mass, where, in addition to
his artistic career, he was a nurseryman and ran a fish
hatchery. Among his sculptures were portrait busts of Allston, Dana,
Longfellow, Garrison, & John Brown, as well as a monumental
life size sculpture of "The Shipwrecked Mother and Child." The book
contains such poems as "The Wreck of the Slave Ship," "The Beggar
Boy," "The Kennebec," "Lines Suggested by Finishing a Bust of
Allston," &c.) $150.00
