and the 3 blanks in the text. Woodcut portrait of the author on the title. Leaf 
of colophon (with device) following p. 636 and colophon with device on verso 
of final leaf of the “Soliloquio” at the end. Cont. limp vellum, later end 
papers. Some old soiling to the preliminary and final leaves.     $1,000.00

First edition, published a year after the author’s death (edited by his son, 
Giovanni Paruta). A much esteemed work on political science written by a 
Venetian statesman of great political and diplomatic experience. There are 2 issues 
or variants of this work. Ours which does not have two (unsigned) leaves 
after gathering 4N4, the end of the main text (with its colophon) and one which 
has the added 2 leaves. These leaves are a separate title and a blank for the 
essay “Un Soliloquio” at back. See BL Italian STC p. 491. Adams P363.
