We are pleased to offer:

DICKINSON, EMILY. POEMS. EDITED BY TWO OF HER FRIENDS MABEL LOOMIS
TODD AND T. W. HIGGINSON.
Boston: Roberts Brothers, 1890. First edition. Myerson A1.1.a,
binding B, (partly stamped in gold rather than silver.) Original
decorated 2-color cloth, top edge gilt. The sheets of this first
printing bulk 11/16ths of an inch rather than 9/16ths, as the paper
used was heavier than that of the later printing.
Spine faded to a lighter hue, lettering on spine faded, slight
rubbing at extremities of spine, free end paper loosening. Name of
former owner (Mary Brayton Durfee of Fall River, Mass.), on end
paper, and her bookplate laid in. Earlier autograph note signed by
Higginson tipped in requesting a classics catalog. Some slight nicks
in the margin of the Contents leaf. Higginson's Preface praises her
"flashes of wholly original and profound insight . . . an
extraordinary vividness ... yet often ... whimsical" and he likens
her poetry to Wm. Blake's. One of the great books in American
literature. $4500.00
