AUDSLEY, George Ashdown and Maurice Ashdown THE PRACTICAL DECORATOR AND

Blackie & Son Glasgow [1892] First Edition Folio (11" x 16") bound in 
contemporary half black leather with leather corners and gilt rules and 
lettering. Comprises 36 pages of text and 2 lettered and 100 numbered superb 
chromolithographic plates, each with its own leaf of text. This practical and 
comprehensive work on ornamental decorative art features examples of Greek, 
Neo-Greek, Gothic, Renaissance, Medieval, and Oriental ornamentation for 
buildings, furniture, walls, etc. One of the last great works of nineteenth 
century chromolithography, the visually stimulating plates were printed by 
Firmin-Didot of Paris. Some rubbing and soiling to covers, with small and rather 
faint splashes of white paint on the front cover. Library pocket on front 
pastedown but no other library markings. Contents tight, bright, and fresh.   $2500
