edition. Wrappers. 16mo. [106 pgs] Good. Pictorial wrapper has some 
small tears, spine also has a small tear at top edge. Self-published 
by a quack who could cure everything with "Dr. Kidd's Treatment". Oh,

6.  (KITCHINER, WILLIAM).  ART OF INVIGORATING AND PROLONGING LIFE BY 
FOOD, CLOTHES, AIR, EXERCISE, WINE, SLEEP ETC...TO WHICH IS ADDED THE 
PLEASURES OF MAKING A WILL, THE. Philadelphia: H. C. Carey & I. Lea, 
1823. From the third London edition. Signed by George Peabody, Salem. 
12mo. Complete copy with original boards. The whole has been 
professionally re-sewn and rebacked with beige cloth printed with 
title. New end papers added to the old end papers, which are all 
there. Minor foxing throughout. The author also wrote the Cook's 
Oracle in 1817. This is George Peabody's (1795-1869) copy. He was the 
famous financier who incorporated The Eastern Railroad in 1836. He 
took J. S. Morgan (J. P. 's daddy) into partnership in 1854. He gave 
the City of London 2.5 million for the erection of workingmen's 
tenements. He was a life-long bachelor, who it appears, followed the 
tenets espoused in this book, thereby living to a ripe old age. 
Bookplate: ex libris John Peabody Monks (laid in). Very scarce.
