      Detailed history of the Franciscan mission at Ventura, California. 
Father Engelhardt was a noted authority and author of many Franciscan 
histories. Includes many interesting historical photographs, a map of 
California showing the locations of the old Franciscan Missions in 
California, and a chronology at rear giving the correct dates of their 
founding. An interesting Appendix item addresses the alleged use of tobacco 
at the missions. Bound in dark brown cloth over boards with spine and upper 
board lettered in gilt. Large view of the mission in gilt on upper board, 
smaller view of a Franciscan and an Indian on lower board.    $75.00
