THAYER,  Phineas. CASEY AT THE BAT. Chicago: A. C. McClurg  &  Co.
1912.  Small  octavo (5" x 6-7/8") in original decorated  green  rough
paper  boards with gilt lettering and a yellow bat with a thick  black
ribbon  tied  around  it. [31] pages. First  Illustrated  Edition  and
First  Separate  Hardcover  Edition  of this  classic  American  poem.
Illustrated  in orange and black by Dan Sayre Groesbeck with full-page
cartoons in orange and black facing a stanza of the poem with a black-
and-white  cartoon  figure below. Smudges from handling to  the  title
page  and  several  other pages; skimmed spot on the  front  pastedown
from  removal of a label. Boards are tight with little wear except for
the  spine which has chipping at the tips and along the joints  with a
short  split at the bottom rear joint. The number "J 6" is written  on
the  spine, on the top of the front cover, and on the copyright  page,
none  terribly intrusive. Very Good copy of this most famous  baseball
poem. Scarce!                                                 $2000.00
