cloth with coloured paper pastedown. John R. Neill illustrations. Reilly 
& Britton Co., Chicago. 1914. 1st edition. Square 8vo.

Contains six stories, each illustrated with a two-page colour plate, and 
numerous other single-page colour plates. There are a total of six 
two-page colour plates (one for each story), and 35 single-page colour 
plates. All the plates are in very good condition, with only a touch of 
soiling to margins. The colour paper pastedown, affixed to the front 
board (which is slightly bowed) is a bit scuffed, and somewhat soiled, 
but the colours are still bright, and there are no serious defects to 
the image. The cloth of the boards is somewhat soiled, with rubbing to 
the edges. The "bluish" illustrated endpapers are unmarked. The 
ownership page (preceding the frontispiece) has been neatly filled in. 
The binding is sprung, and the rear hinge is cracked. Nothing has come 
loose, but it is definately in a weakened state. One page of text has a 
small closed tear to the margin. Some soiling to margins throughout. 
This is the first edition, first state, meeting the points in Hanff. 
Pagination ends at p. 29 but, as Hanff, notes,the pagination of this 
book is extremely jumbled. There are approximately 196 pages. No dust 
jacket.
