We are pleased to offer:

[American Revolution.] Ramsay, David. THE HISTORY OF THE REVOLUTION OF 
SOUTH CAROLINA, FROM A BRITISH PROVINCE TO AN INDEPENDENT STATE. 
M.DCC.LXXXV. [1785.] Trenton: Printed by Isaac Collins. Two vols.: xx, 
453; xx, 574 p. Early full calf with red labels; title in gilt. Wear at 
extremities of spines. Foxing and staining, generally slight throughout. 
Hinges weak on both volumes. About half of ffep lacking on Vol. I. Major 
old ink stain on remaining portion of ffep and half-title of Vol. I. 
Lacks folding map at front of Vol. II (South-Carolina and parts 
adjacent...). Four other maps as described below.

A Revolutionary War history printed in the United States within four 
years of the War's end. The first book granted copyright protection in 
the United States. Contains 4 (of 5) highly desirable Revolutionary War 
maps printed in the U.S. in 1785.

Map in Vol. I:

* A Sketch of the Situation and Stations of the British Vessels under 
the Command of Sir Peter Parker...June 28th 1776. (6 1/2 x 11 1/2." 
Foxing, offsetting, misfolded, 1/2 x 1/2" chip missing from lower blank 
margin.)

Maps in Vol. II:

* A Sketch of Charleston Harbour shewing the disposition of the British 
Fleet...upon the Attack on Fort Moultrie on Sullivan Island in 1780. (6 
3/4 x 11 1/2." Very good.)

* A Sketch of the Operations before Charleston the Capital of South 
Carolina 1780. (14 1/4 x 11 1/4." Closeable horizontal tear of about 6" 
at middle of map. Right edge chipped and browned. Fold separation of 1" 
in right margin.)

* Plan of the Investment of York & Gloucester, by the Allied Armies: in 
Septr. & Octr. 1781. (8 1/2 x 7 1/2." Browned. Trimmed to upper and 
lower neatlines, apparently as issued. Minor roughness at right edge.)

All four of the maps present have "Abernethie sculpt. Charleston" below 
the lower neatline.
