MARAN, Rene (COVARRUBIAS, Miguel). BATOUALA. New York: Limited
Editions Club 1932. Small folio (8-1/2" x 13") bound in full
blind-stamped brown leather. Copy #834 of 1500 with beautiful line
drawings and color illustrations by Miguel Covarrubias who has SIGNED
on the colophon page. The first African novel to portray Black
Africans as they are and not as white men in blackface. One of the
more attractive early titles from the press, not often found in
acceptable condition. This copy has a few small spots of rubbing to
the spine and some streaks of white (paint?) on both covers, but the
binding is still attractive and the leather supple. Near Fine in Near
Fine slipcase. $350.00
