Limitation page: "1,500 copies of The New Hangman have been published: of
which 250 are printed on hand-made paper, numbered, and signed by the
author. This copy is number 45. Laurence Housman's signature below. Pale
blue cloth boards and spine. Bright gilt title and author to upper edge
front board. Spine mildly sunned, light soil to boards. Mild toning, verso
of last blank leaf. Previous owners name and date (1930) to title page.
Clean tightly bound. sm 8 vo., 23 pp. In polyester protective clear wraps.
Laurence Housman, (1865-1959), Worcestershire, England. Illustrator,
novelist, playwright. He started his career as book illustrator, after
studying at the Royal College of Art in London, he achieved success with
various works including, Christina Rossetti's Goblin Market, P.B. Shelley's,
The Sensitive Plant, and other illustrated books. He achieved great success
with his anonymously published, "An English Woman's Love-Letters," and was
widely known for his plays about the Victorian era, many using characters
that represented the Royal Family or Biblical characters. His play "Victoria
Regina" was very successful as well as his series cycle of plays on the
"Life of St. Francis of Assisi". His body of literary works also included
fairy tales, legends and poetry. Laurence was the younger brother of the
