Greetings Booklovers,
We are pleased to offer:
~
(No. 8662 ) Salinger, J[erome]. D[avid]. SLIGHT REBELLION OFF MADISON (IN
THE NEW YORKER, DECEMBER 21, 1946).
[New York]: [F-R. Publishing Corporation], 1946. Magazine, Quarto, pages
82-86. Very good.
A complete, original 1946 issue of 'The New Yorker' containing
Salinger's first story to be published in that magazine. "Slight Rebellion
Off Madison" was originally accepted for publication in 1941, but it's theme
of disaffected youth was deemed inappropriate for war time and so was held
until after World War II ended. The story is also the first published
appearance of Holden Caulfield, and is the foundation of "The Catcher in the
Rye." An important Salinger item. The magazine covers show some rubbing
along the spine, a few creases, and mild age-toning to pages. There is a
discreet two line stamp at the top of the magazine's second advertisement,
leaf 65/66 (far from the Salinger story) has a 1 1/2" tear at fore edge, and
leaf 99/100 has a 1/2" tear at top edge. $150.00
