1. DOUGLAS, Lord Alfred. LYRICS. London: Rich and Cowan 1935. First
Edition. Copy #17 of only 50 copies SIGNED by the author of this
collection bound uniformly with SONNETS in full vellum with a gilt
emblem on the front cover and gilt lettering on the spine.
Illustrated with a portrait frontispiece of Douglas at the age of 24.
Douglas was the longtime companion to Oscar Wilde. It was his
father's actions that led to the arrest of Wilde and his eventual
imprisonment in 1895. In his preface to LYRICS, Douglas mentions
including poems in both this and the SONNETS volume that were omitted
from earlier books because "they lend themselves to evil
interpretations." He decided to include them in these volumes "after
considerable hesitation on the unanimous advice of all the friends
and critics, including a Catholic priest, whom I consulted." Near

Illustrated with a frontispiece facsimile of a manuscript poem by
Douglas. Douglas was the longtime companion to Oscar Wilde. It was
