boards. Moderate scuffing and rubbing, tips worn, some chipping to
spine ends. Early owner signatures to title pages and preliminaries,
foxing, text otherwise clean. A solid set from the law library of

* First American edition. A reprint of the first London edition,
1817-1819. "These volumes contain the judgments of Sir William Grant,
of whom Lord Eldon remarked: 'I doubt whether the Court, in which he
so long administered justice, will ever see a judge of greater ability
and integrity.' ...As models of judicial eloquence, and perfect
specimens of reasoning, they will always be valuable.... If he had any
judicial failing, it was to the strict interpretation and undeviating

by author and by words and phrases. Explanatory notes clarify the
meaning of some well-known, but misunderstood quotations.

of the City of New-York, in the Courts of Oyer & Terminer, Common
Pleas and General Sessions of the Peace. New York: Published for

three-quarter calf over marbled boards. Some rubbing to boards and
joints, chipping to spine ends. Stains to preliminary and final
leaves, interior otherwise clean. A good copy. $300.
* First edition. Provides sixteen speeches concerning such crimes as
assault and battery, bigamy, passing counterfeit money, murder,
manslaughter, seduction and rape. Graham practiced mainly in the New
York City criminal courts. He advocated the amendment of the city code
to prohibit the use of evidence obtained by private examination of
