"THE GARDENS OF GOOD HOPE" by Marion Cran. Published in London by Herbert
Jenkins Ltd. in 1927. 2nd printing.

The plant-related and other adventures of this popular British gardening
writer in South Africa. Marion Cran was quite a popular British author in
her day, writing gardening books and hosting a gardening show on the BBC
radio in the 1920s. Her visit to South Africa took her to the flower farms
in the hills and the orchards at Elgin, through tulip and rose gardens, and
among birds, borage, irises and lilies.

She writes in a lyrical, somewhat circuitous manner, rather like a
creeping, flowering vine which is not quite sure where it is going and does
not particularly care about getting there, but which finds the journey
hither and thither to be of great delight. If you enjoy this sort of
writing you will like this book; if it makes you impatient, you may end up
ripping it apart page by page and composting it.

We also have books on Americana, Central America, fishing, Victorian
fashion, poetry & more-
