HUGO, Victor. NOTRE-DAME DE PARIS. Paris: Limited Editions Club 1930.
Two quarto volumes (7-3/4" x 10-1/8") bound in pink Ingres paper
wrappers. Introduction by Andrew Lang and illustrated with woodcuts
by Frans Masereel. George Macy noted that upon reception of their
copies, many members felt "cheated because the two volumes were
paperbound. We had to bind in hard cases, American fashion, most of
the copies." That said, of the approximately 10-20 copies we have
handled over the years, all but two were in their original paper
wrappers, as is this copy, which is #185 of 1500 SIGNED by the
illustrator. Mostly unopened. Rear cover of second volume with
two-inch closed tear. Near Fine in glassine with tears. Lacking, as
usual, the case. $300.00
