OTTLEY, WILLIAM. YOUNG.  INQUIRY INTO THE ORIGIN AND EARLY HISTORY OF 
ENGRAVING UPON COPPER AND WOOD, AN. London: John and Arthur Arch, 
1816. Illustrated by 22 full-page (one folding) fine copies from rare 
prints and the second volume contains [engravings] by Albert Durer, 
printed from the original blocks, preserved in the British Museum. 
First edition. 2 volumes. Gorgeous full contemporary red morocco, 
heavily embossed with gilt decorations, marbled end papers, all edges 
gilt. 4to, 281 x 231 x 53 mm (11 1/16 x 9 1/8 x 2 1/16 in.). [Paged 
continuously. 836 pgs] Near fine. Title continues, "with an account 
of engravers and their works, from the invention of chalcography by 
Maso Finiguerra, to the time of Marc' Antonio Raimond." Most pages 
and plates are clean and bright but a few plates have offsetting 
which extend to opposite text pages. A magnificent and rare set.
