Billstein, Nathan. "HUMAN INTEREST STORIES AS TOLD BY AN EMPLOYING
PRINTER, NATHAN BILLSTEIN"  Baltimore; The Lord Baltimore Press: 1926.
Edition limited to 250 copies.  A short offprint of an article in The
American Printer, where the author relates several amusing occurrences of
life in the printing trade.  Hardcover. 5"x7", 25 pages. A fine copy in
the original glassine wrapper, wrapper a bit torn about the edges.


Kantra, Robert A.  "ALL THINGS VAIN. RELIGIOUS SATIRISTS AND THEIR ART" 
University Park & London; The Pennsylvania State University Press: 1984. 
" 'Religion and satire can be incompatible, even opposed, but they can
also join to produce great art'.  So argues this wide-ranging book, which
seeks to identify the essence of religious satire... (starting) with a
brief examination of medieval religious satire". Kantra then moves on to
the Renaissance (the "golden era" for the genre) and then the
Elizabethans, Metaphysicals, Augustans, Victorians and moderns.

Pomfret, John E.  "THE HENRY E. HUNTINGTON LIBRARY AND ART GALLERY, FROM
ITS BEGINNINGS TO 1969"  San Marino; The Huntington Library: 1969.  Dr.
John E. Pomfret, former Director of the Huntington Library, traces the
history of that august institution over its distinguished 50-year history.
The story of the transformation of a priceless private collection into a
working research library, hand-in-hand with the development of the art
collection and botanical gardens, remains a fascinating tale for
bibliophiles of all ages.  Hardcover. 6.5"x9.5", 241 pages, portrait, dj;
a little light fading to the jacket, else a near fine copy.


Exman, Eugene.  "THE HOUSE OF HARPER. ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY YEARS OF
PUBLISHING"  New York; Harper & Row: 1967.  The story of one of America's
oldest, most distinguished publishers.  Hardcover. 6.5"x9.5", 326 pages,
b/w illustrations, dj. Light wear.


"FINE BOOKS & AUTOGRAPH LETTERS, INCLUDING IMPORTANT BOTANICAL BOOKS FROM
THE COLLECTION OF THE MASSACHUSETTS HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY"  New York;
Sotheby's: October 1st, 1980.  An auction which included some very fine
botanical books from the collection of the Massachusetts Horticultural
Society (lots 99-174), as well as literary and musical autograph letters
and manuscripts and early maps.  Softcover. 8.5"x9", 279 lots, b/w and
color illustrations, light wear.


Four Children's Books auction catalogs.  London; Sotheby's: 1980-83.  All
devoted to "Children's Books, Juvenilia", and related drawings,
manuscripts, etc.  That would be books for children, not by them_  The
auctions were on June 5, 1980, October 12-14, 1981, July 20-21, 1982, and
May 22-23, 1983.   Remember, this was the Go-Go '80s -Wall Street, Ronnie,
and excess drugs and money.  God only knows what these people put up for
sale.  Softcovers.  4 volumes  6.5"x10", about 100-150 pages each, b/w
illustrations; light wear.


Pratt, John Barnes.  "PERSONAL RECOLLECTIONS. SIXTY YEARS OF BOOK
PUBLISHING"  New York; A.S. Barnes: 1942. John Barnes Pratt went from mail
room errand boy to President of A.S. Barnes. These short memoirs chronicle
the numerous ups and downs inherent in book publishing, the periodic
restructuring of the company in order to maintain its solvency, and
finally Pratt's purchase of just one line of books, along with the Barnes
name, which saved the imprint from oblivion. Hardcover. 5.5"x8", 67 pages,
several b/w plates; stamped ex-lib; inscribed by Pratt.


Mortimer, Ruth.  "THE SELMA IRVING COLLECTION -MODERN ILLUSTRATED BOOKS" 
Northampton; Smith College Museum of Art: 1977.  A fine collection of 20th
century illustrated books, including Baskin, Braque, Bonnard, Chagall,
Dufy, Maillol, Matisse, Picasso, Redon, Rouault, Vuillard, and others.
Softcover.  9"x9", 62 pages, b/w illustrations; light wear.


Thorpe, James.  "LETTERS IN MANUSCRIPT. A FACSIMILE REPRODUCTION OF
ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPTS IN THE HUNTINGTON LIBRARY..."  San Marino; Huntington
Library: 1971. A fascinating romp through the centuries, including
letters: from Lord Nelson to Lady Hamilton; Charles Dickens to Thomas
Milton; Abraham Lincoln to Ulysses S. Grant; General George Patton to a
young boy; a 20-year old Robert Frost sending poems to an editor; Aubrey
Beardsley on his deathbed begging his publisher to destroy his Lysistrata
drawings; and Jack London to Joseph Conrad, and back again... Softcover.
8.5"x11", 48 pages, b/w illustrations, near fine.
