Translated... by Josuah Sylvester. (London: Humfrey Lounes. 1608.) Sm. 4to. 2 parts in 
one. (32),544,195,(23);96,(8)pp. Ornately engraved title (slightly trimmed at 
bottom margin). With a woodcut portrait of Du Bartas, a woodcut of Adam in the 
Garden of Eden, a full-page woodcut “The Triumph of Faith,” and numerous 
curious woodcut borders. 17th century calf, rebacked with spine in five gilt 
sections. A very nice copy, complete with A1, The Anagrammata leaf, printed on the 
verso only (blank top, 1/2" remargined).     $1,000.00 (trade discount

The second English edition, an early issue with the engraved title lacking 
the printer’s name, its verso blank. See S.T.C. 21650. This is the first edition 
to contain the second part, THE HISTORIE OF            JUDITH, translated by 
Thomas Hudson. “The Devine Weekes” is a famous epic poem that influenced 
numerous other writers including Milton. There are references in the text to
