1.  MATTHIESSEN,  Peter.  AFRICAN  SILENCES. New  York:  Random  House
(1991).  First  Edition. SIGNED by the author on the title page.  Fine
in a Fine dustwrapper.                                          $75.00

2.  MATTHIESSEN,  Peter. IN THE SPIRIT OF CRAZY HORSE. New  York:  The
Viking  Press (1983). First Edition. Recalled by the publisher shortly
after  publication  due  to  a law suit and  suppressed  for  nearly a
decade,  this  is the true First Edition of Matthiessen's  account  of
Native  American  activist Leonard Peltier and the  shoot-out  between
American  Indian Movement members and the FBI at Wounded Knee.  SIGNED
by  the  author  on the half-title page. Fine in a  Fine  dustwrapper,
lovely copy.                                                   SOLD

3.  MATTHIESSEN,  Peter.  INDIAN COUNTRY. New York: The  Viking  Press
(1984).  First  Edition. One of his scarcer books, especially in  this
condition  and  when  SIGNED,  as this is on  the  title  page.  Minor

4.  MATTHIESSEN,  Peter. PARTISANS. New York: The Viking  Press  1955.
First  Edition.  His second book, rather uncommon in  this  condition.
Dustwrapper  with  very light rubbing, small closed tear at middle  of
spine  with customary sunning to the orange block. Fine in a Near Fine

5.  MATTHIESSEN,  Peter. UNDER THE MOUNTAIN WALL. A CHRONICLE  OF  TWO
SEASONS  IN  THE STONE AGE. New York: The Viking Press  (1962).  First
Edition.  His  third  book  of nonfiction, a  chronicle  of  the  1961
Harvard-Peabody  Expedition  to  New  Guinea.  Later  issue  with  the
photographs  bound correctly at the beginning and the end of the book.
SIGNED  by  the  author on the title page. About Fine in a  Near  Fine

6.  MATTHIESSEN,  Peter. UNDER THE MOUNTAIN WALL. A CHRONICLE  OF  TWO

First  British  Edition  retaining  the photographs  but  issued  in a
smaller  format than the American edition of the previous year of  his
third  book  of  nonfiction, a chronicle of the  1961  Harvard-Peabody
Expedition  to  New  Guinea. SIGNED by the author on the  title  page.
