The Pilgrim Fathers; or, The Founders of New England in The Reign of James
the First (1603 - 1625 AD).  , Bartlett, W.H., Arthur Hall, Virtue & Co.,
London, 1853, First Edition: The history of our American Forefathers
(Leyden - as they flee their homeland of England due to the religious
intolerance during the reign of James the First (1603 - 1625 AD). Detailing
their  origins and lives in England, religious leaders and beliefs, their
suffering and persecution in England and escape to Holland. The conditions
in Holland during their exile and finally their emigration on the Mayflower
to the New World, and the hardships of settlement. Also providing Pilgrim
character, localities, leadership, etc. Bartlett's sources were gathered
from many early publications connected to different localities, along with
penned memorials; however his chief source are the original chronicles of
the Pilgrims, collected by Mr. Young, of Boston, Old Colony records,
researches of Mr. Sumner at Leyden, etc. Illustrated with 28 steel
engravings, and 31 woodcuts. Various engravings listed: Delft-Haven,
(frontispiece); Scrooby; Mayflower at Cape Cod; Portrait of Winslow;
Provincetown; Leyden, View from Town Hall; Old Houses, Boston; Dutch

Mild rubbing of extremities, corners bumped, with lower front corners
rubbed. Quarter inch chipping to spine ends. Various chips along rear joint.
Spine has been re-backed. Mild soil to rear board. Yellow end papers. Small
bookseller sticker to lower edge of front pastedown, small oval bookseller
blind stamp to e.p., small binders sticker to rear e.p. Very light scattered
foxing, tissue toned. Hinges starting. Text and illustrations clean and
bright, text block tight in covers. 16 pages of ads, (vi, viii, xii), 240
pages with Index (Sketch of the Puritan Emigration That Followed In The
Track of the Pilgrims). In protective archival wraps. First Edition. sm 4

The Second Jungle Book, Kipling, Rudyard, Illustrations by John Lockwood,
The Century Co., N.Y. 1895, First American Edition: A continuation of The
Jungle Book, these adventures of Mowgli and his companions of the jungle.
With beautiful back and white illustrations and decorations (head &
tailpieces) by John Lockwood Kipling, (Kipling's Father, artist and scholar
who had considerable influence on his son's work). Orange stamped cloth
boards and spine, bright gilt title and author's name, stamped decorative
Palm Tree illustration to front and rear boards. Spine  darkened, gilt
lettering, blind stamped decoration. Rubbing of extremities, rub spots to
edges of front board, few to spine. Very clean text, solidly bound. TEG.

Moses, Asch, Sholem; Translated By Maurice Samuel, Signed, Presentation
Copy. Limited to 500 Copies, G. P. Putnam, N.Y. 1951: Sholem
Asch,(1880-1957), Yiddish novelist, playwright, and essayist, (b) Kutno,
Poland. One of 500 copies of Moses, specially bound and autographed for
friends of the author. Signed to prelim. later works reflect the common
spiritual heritage of Jews and Christians. Asch's grand (novel) portrait of
Moses, infused with years of research and Asch's insight and imagination.
>From Moses as a young prince of Pharaoh's court, rebelling under palace
discipline - aware of the legends that surround him- yet deeply curious
about the suffering of the Hebrew people under the horrors of slavery.
Following his decision to cast his lot with Israel - through his mission of
God's will. A vivid account delving deeply into the roots held  in common by
most accounts today. As Asch's later works reflect the common spiritual
heritage of Jews and Christians. One of 500 copies of Moses, specially bound
and autographed for friends and family. Black pebbled cloth boards and
spine, bright gilt title to both, "Presentation Copy" in gilt to lower front
board. End papers decorate with map of The Exodus: Egypt to the Promised

Marmion (Illustrated), Scott, Sir Walter, James R. Osgood, Boston, 1885:
Scott's six canto Romanized poem of one of Scotland's greatest, and most
disastrous battles, Flodden Field (1513).. A lovely decorated bound issue of
this medieval romantic verse. Illustrated throughout with 78 drawings and
engravings, including head and tailpieces. By many illustrators including
L.S. Ipsen; A.B. Shute; H. Fenn; G. Perkins; F.B. Schell; A.V.S. Anthony;
G.K. Atwood; Russell & Richardson, etc. Frontispiece has tissue guard. Many
Canto's decoratively framed. All edges gilt. Bound in mustard color cloth,
with ornate gilt and black decorations and illustration to front board and
spine, rear board blank. Mild soil to rear board. Spine ends bumped, corners
