Two rare items, South Dakota and Colorado Mining

SOUTH DAKOTA: Rare immigration brochure
The State of South Dakota Has a Place for You: The Land of Sunshine, Happy
Homes and Prosperous People, of Fertile Plains, Mountains of Precious Metals
and Beautiful Scenery. Pierre SD: Department of Immigration, n.d. (c. 1920).
A promotional brochure that attempts to entice immigrants to the area, with
much emphasis on agricultural opportunities, ranching, crops, mining, etc.
Large folio sheet (about 22x31 inches) folds down to 9x4 inches. The
statements regarding opportunities are printed on the verso, the recto has a
brightly-colored State map at center, surrounded by numerous B&W photos of
livestock, farms, etc. A scarce item, appearing in only a few major
libraries in OCLC. (SD, MI, Yale.) CONDITION: a few spots worn through at
outer folds (very small areas), cover has a tiny chip on fore-edge margin
(not intruding into printing) and slightly toned. DEALER PRICE for limited
time only: $100 ppd.

COLORADO MINING: Rare stock certificate and related ephemera
The Elk Mountain Mining and Milling Co. Stock certificate, about 8.25 x
11.25, green border with three beautiful engraved vignettes depicting
smelters in mountain scene, miners with picks and lighted candles on hats,
miners working walls and calling for ore bucket to be raised. The
certificate is dated June, 1909 and is for 2,000 shares at $1.00 each. Not
cancelled. This is an unusual certificate in that it includes a drawing of
the mine, lodes, and tunnels on the back.
Included is a typewritten letter dated June 10, 1909 on Elk Mountain
Mining stationery, signed by Charles H. Bowles, President, requesting the
first payment of $250 for the shares.
PLUS A follow-up note dated July 19, 1909, on a short sheet of
stationery, requesting payment again and also signed by Bowles.
PLUS a single-fold sheet (17 x 11 inches opened) with reports on the
mine surveys from c. Nov. 1, 1909 and a statement of intent to pursue the
diggings printed on the front and back panes, a large drawn map of the mine,
veins, tunnels, etc. on the inside two panels.
CONDITION, all have been folded for mailing, otherwise all are in
excellent condition with some slight toning.
