BACH, JOHANN. SEBASTIAN. JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH'S
WERKE: BACH-GESELLSCHAFT EDITION. Leipzig,
Breitkopf and Härtel,., 1851-99. Edited by The
Bach-Gesellschaft. First edition. 46 volumes.
Original half morocco gilt with cloth-covered
boards and marbled end papers. 4to. Near fine.
Forty-six volumes in forty-seven books. The
original complete collection of Bach's works, the
Bach-Gesellschaft edition, appeared in Leipzig in
46 volumes between 1851 and 1899. It was the
first "complete works" edition to publish a
composer's notation without deliberate editorial
tampering, to include almost every composition,
and to provide a critical apparatus, serving as a
model for virtually every critical edition since
that day.

The Morocco spines have some rubbing and the
marble paper first free end paper in volume I is
loose but present; otherwise an amazingly fine
set. $16500.00
