The adverts in Volume 1 are not present in this set. With both half-titles.
Illustrated with 2 engraved title-pages and 20 plates by George Cruikshank. All
of the plates in Volume 1 are printed in brown, two of which have a duplicate
plate printed in black, on India paper. Finely bound in 19th century polished
tan calf, signed by Bedford, neatly rebacked with the ornately gilt spines
laid down. A.e.g. A fine, tall copy, untrimmed, page size 7-5/16” x 4-1/4”. The
Turner-Bruton copy (both major 19th century Cruikshank collectors) with pencil
notes by Bruton on the front blank. Each volume with the engraved bookplate
of Edward Henry Hill. $10,000.00 (trade discount allowed)
The first edition, first issue (title page without the umlaut in “Marchen,”
etc.) of this classic of children’s literature. The stories include Hansel and
Grettel, Little Red Riding Hood, Rumpelstiltskin, The Frog Prince, etc. A
lovely set.
