Greetings Booklovers,

We are pleased to offer:
~
(No. 8513 ) Lowell, Percival (1855-1916). MARS AND ITS CANALS.
New York: Macmillan Company, 1911. Third thousand, Original cloth, Octavo,
xv, 393 pages + 1 leaf of ads, Black & white and color plates. Good.
Lowell's treatise on what he believed were canals, visible on the
surface of Mars, and what he thought about their origins. Subsequent
observation from space and from the Martian surface itself has found no
canals. Bound in dark green cloth over boards with gilt-stamped spine and
upper board titles, top edge gilt. Binding shows rubs and moderate wear at
extremities, a few ripples to spine, and two small punctures to cloth in
upper joint. Three plates have a semi-circular water tide mark extending 1
1/2" into the plate along 3 1/2" of fore edge and there are a few discreet
pencil lines scattered in margins, but otherwise interior is clean and
bright with tissue guards in place. $225.00, net, ppd.
