"Transcribed from the shorthand manuscript in the Pepysian Library
Magdalene College Cambridge by the Rev. Mynors Bright M.A. Late fellow
and President of the College. With Lord Braybrooke's Notes." Each volume
bound in brown morocco over green cloth, with the top edge gilt, and the
spine in compartments interspersed with a delicate gilt design in the
style of Talwin Morris. The endpapers are marbled and each volume has a
green ribbon marker. Each volume illustrated with a frontispiece, plus
engravings, facsimiles and other illustrations. Volume IX contains The
Index, and volume X is a Supplementary Volume entitled "Pepysiana / or /
Additional Notes on the Particulars of Pepy's Life and on some passages
in the Diary".
The spines of each volume are somewhat lightened. Bottom edge of spine
of volume I slightly frayed. Raised bands to spines of several volumes
slightly rubbed.A few nicks to leather, but nothing untoward. The
contents are very clean and bright throughout, with no former owner's
markings - it appears that this set was seldom opened. Slight residual
odor of smoke, if one presses one's nose into the book. Overall, a most
handsome set in good plus, to very good, condition. Photos available.
