The  Macmillan  Company 1901. Reprint. Octavo (5-3/8" x 8-1/8")  bound
in  3/4 dark brown morocco with gilt-ruled borders on both covers  and
a  gilt-lettered and decorated spine with five raised bands, top  edge
gilt.  Illustrated  with twelve photogravures from  photographs.  Fine

2.  BACON,  Francis.  ADVANCEMENT OF LEARNING and NOVUM  ORGANUM.  New
York:  Willey  Book  Co. 1944. Revised Edition. Octavo (6"  x  9-1/4")
attractively  bound in 3/4 greenish brown morocco with gilt  lettering
and stamping on the spine. Very minor wear. Near Fine          $125.00

3.  BYRON,  Lord. POETRY OF BYRON. London: MacMillan &  Company  1927.
Small  octavo (4" x 6-1/8") bound by Riviere and Son in full tree calf
with    double   gilt-ruled  borders  on   both  covers,   a   heavily
gilt-decorated  spine,  gi  lt  dentelles,  and  a  red  gilt-lettered
morocco  spine  label, all edges gilt; xxxvi, 276 pages. Part  of  the
Golden  Treasury  Series,  selected and arranged  by  Matthew  Arnold.
Small  armorial  bookplate on the front endpaper. Few small  areas  of
white  on  covers but not terribly distracting. Near Fine in a  pretty

4.  CARMAN,  Bliss & HOVEY, Richard. SONGS FROM VAGABONDIA bound  with
MORE  SONGS  FROM  VAGABONDIA bound with LAST SONGS  FROM  VAGABONDIA.
Boston:  Small,  Maynard  &  Co 1916. The  three  volumes,  all  later
editions,  are  handsomely  bound together in brown 3/4  morocco  with
gilt  rules,  five  raised bands, and a gilt-decorated  spine.  SIGNED
"Very  Sincerely yours/Bliss Carman" on a front blank. Laid into  this
attractive  book  is  an AUTOGRAPH MANUSCRIPT SIGNED by  Carman,  nine
couplets  from  the poems "The Joys of the Road," contained  in  SONGS
FROM  VAGABONDIA.  It  begins "Asking nothing,  revealing  naught,/But
minting  his words from a fund of thought" and ends "Seeing it good as
when  God  first saw/And gave it the weight of his will for law."  The
size  of  the paper, Hotel Henry stationery from Pittsburgh,  is  6" x
9-1/2"  and  is in Very Good condition with one of the folds  starting
to split. Fine                                                 $350.00

5.  CHINESE  LOVE  POEMS.  Mount Vernon: Peter  Pauper  Press  (1942).
Octavo  (5-5/8" x 8-3/4") bound in full dark blue morocco with  triple
gilt-ruled  borders on both covers, gilt-lettered and decorated spine,
gilt  dentelles; top edge gilt. Poems from 800 BC to modern times. One
of  1650 copies printed on special paper. In a plain slipcase which is
stained. Fine in a handsome binding.                           $150.00

6.  DICKINSON,  Emily. THE POEMS OF EMILY DICKINSON.  Boston:  Little,
Brown  & Company 1948. Reprint. Edited by Martha Dickinson Bianchi and
Alfred  Leete Hampson. Octavo (5-1/8" x 8") bound in 3/4 navy  morocco
and  blue cloth with gilt-ruled borders, a large gilt ornament on  the
front  cover, and a floral gilt-decorated spine with five raised bands
and  gilt  lettering. Illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of  the
poet  and a facsimile page of her writing; xii, [iv], 484 pages. Large
School  Award Bookplate on the front pastedown for Madeline Gay Tucker
signed  by George D. Varney, a representative from Maine who was  also
leader  of the Maine Legislature. Clean closed tear to the  half-title
page  with  no  loss;  minor  soiling to  the  binding.  Would  make a
wonderful gift. Near Fine in attractive binding.               $250.00

7.  EPICTETUS  (CROSSLEY,  Hastings: editor). THE  GOLDEN  SAYINGS  OF
EPICTETUS  WITH  THE  HYMN  OF   CLEANTHES.  London:  MacMillan  1935.
Reprint.  Small  octavo  (3-7/8" x 6-1/8") beautifully bound  in  full
blue  morocco by Riviere & Sons with gilt-ruled borders and  decorated
spine,  contrasting  morocco  spine labels with gilt  lettering,  gilt
dentelles  and attractive endpapers, all edges gilt. Touch of  rubbing
to  the  tips of the spine which is mildly sunned. Housed in  a  cloth
slipcase. Near Fine, lovely copy.                              $200.00

8.  FRANCIS  OF ASSISSI. THE LITTLE FLOWERS OF SAINT FRANCIS.  London:
The  Medici Society Ltd. (1930). Small octavo (4" x 6") bound in  full
blue  polished  calf with double gilt-ruled borders, a  gilt-decorated
spine with a floral pattern, gilt dentelles, pretty marbled endpapers,
and  contrasting  gilt-lettered morocco spine labels, top  edge  gilt;
xxxvi,  311 pages. The binding is signed but the stamping on the verso
of  the front free endpaper is not clear. Housed in a cloth  slipcase.

9.  KEATS,  John. THE POETICAL WORKS OF JOHN KEATS. London:  MacMillan
1937.  Reprint.  Small octavo (3-7/8" x 6") beautifully bound in  full
polished  red  calf by Bayntun (Riviere) Bath with gilt-ruled  borders
and  panels,  decorated  spine with a morocco spine  label  with  gilt
lettering,  gilt  dentelles and attractive endpapers, all edges  gilt.
Joints  with  some  rubbing and slight wear to the heel of  the  spine
which  is  mildly  sunned.  Near Fine  in  attractive  art  deco-style

10.  KEATS,  John.  THE POETICAL WORKS OF JOHN KEATS.  London:  Oxford
University  Press 1931. Large sextodecimo (16mo: 4-3/4" x 7-1/4") in a
handsome  Riviere  school award binding of 3/4 polished blue calf  and
blue  cloth with a gilt Hamlin School ensignia and motto "Sempre  Plus
Ultra"  on the front cover, gilt rules, gilt lettering and decorations
on  the spine, and marbled endpapers. The whole of Keats's known works
in  verse edited, with an introduction and textual notes, by H. Buxton
Forman. Owner presentation on front blank. Near Fine           $200.00
