Volume 1; No's 1-24. bound in a single volume.] Folio (13-3/4 x 10
inches)in brown cloth with leather tips and spine; raised bands and gilt
lettering on spine. Text printed on inexpensive paper in 3 columns with
numerous woodcut illustrations in the large format of newspaper
supplements. Each Number was issued individually and the publisher later
bound and sold the 24 no's as single-volume sets. Authors include Wilkie
Collins; Thomas Hughes, Anthony Trollope, Jules Verne, Florence
Marryatt; Alfred Tennyson, &c. Publisher's lists and advts. at end of
each number. Covers worn with 2-inch split at top of spine. Endpapers a
little crumpled and a little irregularity in the printing (as normal);
internally clean and sound with only occasional light toning to a few
pages. Quite scarce in this complete form. $650
