author and subject, W. E. B. Du Bois. Brooks's description of the author 
as, among other things, "an artist and a prophet" in THE CONFIDENT YEARS 
is cited by Shirley Graham in one of her comments on page 11 of the 
present book. A rare presentation copy by Du Bois of some importance.
